National Settlement Depository (NSD), Russia’s central securities depository, has begun collecting and disclosing market participants’ Level 2 data which allows for the identification of parent and subsidiary companies using LEIs and connections between them.

In accordance with the requirements of the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF), NSD has developed and implemented the Level 2 format to transfer information about the parent companies of market participants with LEIs to GLEIF, and to make it available for free on NSD’s website.

Earlier, in July 2017, pursuant to GLEIF requirements, NSD implemented a new format for disclosing Level 1 data – information about market participants and their LEIs (CDF 2.1). This format will replace the previous format – CDF 1.0. Implementing CDF 2.1 and Level 2 formats is NSD’s next step towards receiving the status of a GLEIF-accredited LOU.

The accreditation process as a LOU includes a few consecutive stages, which NSD has passed functioning as a pre-LOU authorized by the Legal Entity Identifier Regulatory Oversight Committee (LEI ROC) and assigning LEIs.

NSD has performed pre-LOU functions since 2013. During the first 8 months of 2017, it assigned 42 new LEIs and verified 291 LEIs (10% more than for the same period of 2016).
