On 16 July 2015 NSD has completed a sudden testing of the Disaster Recovery Plan and NSD’s activities recovery. Procedures of testing the business continuity included:
- fire training, including evacuation of NSD’s employees and visitors from the main office and gathering the employees at the designated assembly point;
- testing of warning and alarm systems, smoke exhaust systems, air compensation and pressurization systems, automatic unlock the doors on the escape routes;
- testing of efficiency and communication capabilities between the Emergency Management Committee, Management Company, Security Division, and Administrative Division.
Testing also covered the system of prompt individual notification of NSD’s employees (via automated SMS distribution).
The communication channel between the backup site and the Interregional Center of Information Processing (MCOI) was proven to be functioning normally and the possibility to disclose information on NSD’s website was successfully tested. As part of emergency interaction procedures, interested divisions of Moscow Exchange and the Bank of Russia were timely informed.
Representatives of Financial Stability Department of the Bank of Russia, and a representative from Moscow Exchange took part in the testing as observers. Municipal services were also involved in the testing procedures.
During the fire alarm training initiated at 14:15 (Moscow time) and the subsequent evacuation of NSD’s employees and visitors, all critical business processes were continued from the backup site. Additionally, several evacuated employees were delegated to the backup site in order to run critical processes, including close of business, from the backup site.
Positive results of the training/testing prove high reliability of NSD as a central securities depository.
