On 27 June 2016, Eddie Astanin, Chairman of the Executive Board of National Settlement Depository (NSD), Russia’s central securities depository, was named the winner of Russia’s Financial Elite Award (held in Moscow). Mr. Astanin won in the category “For Development of Settlement and Depository Services on the Financial Market.”
The Award’s expert council, including representatives from governmental organizations and professional associations, commended NSD’s CEO on his personal contributions to forming and developing Russia’s settlement infrastructure.
Mr. Astanin has more than 20-year experience in the financial services industry. As a head of NSD he took part in creating Russia’s central securities depository, providing Euroclear and Clearstream access to the local market and starting in a scale reform of the corporate actions system Under his leadership, NSD was recognized by the Bank of Russia as a systemically important central securities depository, a systemically important settlement depository, and a systemically important repository, also the NSD Payment System was assigned the status of a systemically and nationally important system. Mr. Astanin is actively involved in building global financial infrastructure on behalf of Russia, as its first representative on SWIFT’s Board of Directors.
Russia’s Financial Elite Award, an annual prize in the financial industry, was founded in 2005. The Award’s organizing committee takes into account Russian rating agencies’ data, and the expert assessments of Russian economists, financiers, and journalists from profile media.
