National Settlement Depository (NSD), Russia’s central securities depository, reports that as of the end of October 2019, the value of assets under its custody exceeded 50 trillion in ruble equivalent.

Within seven years (starting 6 November 2012 when NSD was assigned the Russian Federation CSD status by FFMS of Russia Order No. 12-2761-pz), the aggregate amount of assets under NSD’s custody has increased from 9 trillion to 15 trillion in ruble equivalent.

“This 50 trillion milestone reflects the progressive development of the Russian stock market and investors’ trust in its infrastructure in general, and in NSD as the central securities depository, in particular. Since the beginning of this year we have seen a rapid growth in shares and the OFZ market - it was 20%, as well as strong investor demand for MinFin Eurobonds and Russian issuers’ corporate bonds (more than an 8% increase). We are happy to report that local market participants have begun to more actively use instruments circulating on the Moscow Exchange ; among these were GCC and mutual fund units, where two-fold growth was recorded,” said Eddie Astanin, Chairman of the Executive Board, NSD.
